Lightning is suspected to have started the fire on Saturday 2 February at Elevated Plains near Hepburn.

Residents were warned to evacuate as the fire travelled in a southerly direction towards the town. Firefighters worked day and night to suppress the fire.

As part of his visit Andrew spoke about CFA's strong connection with the local community as members are also a part of their community.

He acknowledged the other time pressures members face with work, family and other commitments and thanked them for efforts.

He also toured the fire-ravaged gully at the end of Mannings Road with Lieutenant Mick Yanner from Hepburn brigade.
