CEO/Chief Officer Steve Warrington provides an update on preparing for the season ahead, and a few activities going on at CFA.

This week we have seen the fire season off to a start with the first TFB yesterday in the Mallee and fires in Shepparton and Glenlyon in the past 24 hours.
Please keep reminding your communities to stay vigilant and ensure where possible properties are prepared.
We’ve also had a number of people deployed to help our colleagues out in NSW. The conditions they are facing up there are very challenging, and we wish them all the best and a safe return back to Victoria.
With the safety of our communities front of mind, we also need to remember our own safety and wellbeing.
I want to re-inforce, before any firefighter responds to a fire, they need to have completed wildfire Minimum Skills, the hazardous trees package and the entrapment drill. As the season progresses, ensure you are looking after your own wellbeing, and that of others around you.

If you don’t feel quite right, or notice a change in one of your colleagues or crew members make sure you check-in and remind them we have services accessible through our Wellbeing Support Line. These are free, confidential services available 24/7.
With this in mind, Movember is fast approaching and whether you are a fan of the ‘Mo’ or not – it’s a great cause with all the money raised going towards r men’s health.
This year there is an emergency services challenge and I encourage everyone to try and get involved. It isn’t just about the moustache it is about taking action. Make Movember the time you book in with your GP and get a check-up.
Finally, a thank you to over 1,600 CFA people who have given their feedback on the first stages of the new Supplementary Alerting System. The input we’ve received so far has been great and will ensure the app meets our needs. There’s still time to get involved in this stage of the project – the survey closes Monday 28 October.
Thank you and stay safe.
