More than 30 women have taken part in the 'Women in CFA West Region Training Day' at the Longerenong training campus.
For the past four years, the training day has increased confidence amongst participants who learn from other women with a wealth of experience to share. Importantly, the day also provides an opportunity for participants to meet members from other locations within the West, which develops and strengthens networks.
Members completed a range of activities on September 9 including Forced Entry, Car Fire, LPG Bullet, Entrapment Drill, Skip Bin Fire and Hazardous Trees. The newest training prop at the Victorian Emergency Management Training Centre (VEMTC) campus, Photovoltaic Arrays (solar energy), was also used and proved to be a favourite.
Elizabeth Jones, Brigade Administrative Support Officer in District 16, commented “For me personally as a BASO, I wish I had participated in the day two years ago. It was a really positive experience; everyone is so welcoming and accepting. The Pad staff members were very helpful and informative. I will defiantly be attending another day and encouraging other members to get involved.”
The day was filled with laughter, learning, networking and above all, confidence building. We hope that all who attended enjoyed themselves – we certainly did!
