A planned burning first in south west

A planned burn of 44 hectares at Lara was completed recently.

Brigades included Lara, Anakie, Highton, Corio and Mannerim. The burn was significant as it was the first CFA planned burn to be conducted within an FRV footprint. The activity successfully reduced fuel loads on an important industrial estate, providing critical asset protection.

The collaboration between CFA staff, CFA brigades, FRV and the private sector was significant. Special thanks to Roger Buckle (burn controller), David Love (ignition controller), Brendan Lawson and Darren Power (CFA), Tony Field (FRV) and the management of Chemring Australia.

The cooperation among the participating brigades was a highlight, and demonstrated great teamwork and a willingness to travel in order to assist in planned burning. Key benefits included the opportunity for new members to learn the burning process and the upskilling of existing members.
