CFA mum inspires sons through volunteering

Member News image Shane, Maurice, Liam and mother, Carmen are all proud to be CFA volunteers.

Volunteering is a family affair for a trio of Truganina sons and their mum, who are working together to keep the local community safe.

Carmen Green and her sons, Shane, Liam and Maurice, are all volunteers with Truganina Fire Brigade.

“My eldest son [Shane] joined the Juniors and l would sit at the station while they were training and talking to other parents,” Carmen said.

“Seeing him enjoy learning his new skills and participating in competitions, that’s what inspired me to join.

“My younger twins followed suit with the Juniors when they were old enough to join and have held several roles which is very inspiring for young adults today.”

The family believe that volunteering together helped them come together as a family.

“Volunteering alongside my mum is so special because it helps make me feel reassured that she understands why we do this,” Liam said.

“It helps me to know that she is a part of something we love, and that the love of family that she gave us by raising us has passed on to looking out for each other on the fire ground.”

Older brother Shane agreed.

“Being able to volunteer in the CFA with my mum and my brothers brings us even closer as a family. Being able to share our experiences together is fulfilling,” Shane said.

Maurice too feels his Mother’s strength is one of her defining attributes.

“When faced with a challenge mum never backs down, she puts up a fight and perseveres. She’s an inspiration who always puts her hand up to assist whenever she can and does,” Maurice said.

Shane, Liam and Maurice, like many others will be celebrating Mother’s Day today.

We wish all Mothers in CFA and in our communities a happy Mother's Day!
