The Irymple and Mildura communities are set to receive a boost to emergency services facilities, thanks to a $2.25 million funding announcement for a new station in Irymple on Wednesday.

The current ageing station will be replaced by a new, modern, fit-for-purpose facility featuring at least three drive-through vehicle bays on Koorlong Avenue.

Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp representing the Acting Minister for Police and Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes was joined by CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan to announce funding for the new station.

CO Heffernan said this welcome announcement will provide a great resource for both the brigade and Sunraysia Group to use for operations, training and community education.

“I am confident that this new station will be a facility this community can be proud of,” he said.

“Irymple is a busy brigade that responds to a range of urban and rural incidents and is very deserving of this new facility.”

The Irymple Fire Brigade is in its 70th year diligently serving its community.

Irymple Captain Steven Elms said the brigade is looking forward to moving to a modern station that will give them room to grow.

“Our members are thrilled about the announcement,” Steven said.

“The new station will mean a dedicated training space and resources, ability to accommodate new trucks and equipment.”

The brigade was established in 1951, and currently has 32 volunteer members.

CFA will engage with District staff and the local brigade in the coming months to commence plans for the new station.

The new station is one of six CFA facilities being funded out of an $28 million the government committed for emergency service facility upgrades in the Victorian Budget 2021/22.
