Smythesdale Fire Brigade has been overwhelmed by the generous donation of $4,800 from the Ballarat Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre.

Ballarat Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre President Harisankar Parippaayillam said their mission was to encourage and foster the co-development of religious, cultural and community service and promote harmony and goodwill.

“We are committed to the local region of Ross Creek and want to work with the community and collaborate with all community groups,” Harisankar said.

“CFA has always been a priority for us, and after the devastating fires last year our committee decided to support our local CFA who worked so hard during the fires.

“We held a fundraiser and invited Hindu and Indian community members to help support our local community.

“The event included an Indian cuisine luncheon and musical performances and was held at the Ballarat South Community Hub raising $4,800.

“Our contribution is small, but we hope it helps buy new equipment for the brigade and also increases awareness within our community about CFA and what they do.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the local community and CFA in the future.”

Smythesdale Fire Brigade Captain Jeff Carey said the brigade was overwhelmed and humbled by the generous donation.

“The money donated will go towards new equipment for the rehabilitation unit at Smythesdale Station and new shelving for the storage shed at Ross Creek Station,” Jeff said.

“Thank you very much to the members of the Ballarat Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre and all the people involved in the fundraiser. We really appreciate the generous support from local community groups.”
