The AFSM is awarded for distinguished service to fire services across Australia. Only one award is presented to an individual, and recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal letters AFSM.

Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said it’s important for all of us to recognise the enormous contributions CFA people make.

“The AFSM awards give anyone the opportunity to put forward a nomination for someone they know who deserves to be honoured," he said.

“As CFA members, we place the communities at the centre of everything we do. The AFSM provides us with an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the amazing contributions of our members and I encourage you all to put forward a nomination for anyone who has shown remarkable service to the Victorian community.”

Due Date: 1 May 2021 (CFA closing date)

The medal is awarded twice a year on Australia Day and the Queen's Birthday in recognition of distinguished service by a member of an Australian fire service.

Recent CFA recipients include Ross CoyleIan HayMark Roberts and Leighton Wraith.
