CFA Deputy Chief Office Gavin Freeman said the investment was about recognising the changing nature of CFA’s service,

“We are no longer just a firefighting authority. We respond to EMR, we respond to HAZMAT and we respond to motor vehicle collisions,” DCO Freeman said.

Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading incident types CFA crews respond to.

“CFA crews have attended over 9000 motor vehicle accidents in the past year, of that around 430 incidents required CFA crews to perform extrications often under extremely challenging conditions and while lives are at risk,” DCO Freeman said.

The new facility will provide road rescue support training to all career firefighters at the 37 integrated brigades across the state allowing them to respond to all kinds of vehicle accidents a major increase on their capability supporting Victorian communities.

“This training will give our career firefighters the skills to get Victorians out of car wrecks faster and safer than ever before, ensuring our paramedics can give you the treatment you need.”

All cars are donated to CFA by Victoria Police.

“If you’re hooning around Victoria, there’s no a good chance CFA will cut your car up in the name of safety,” DCO Freeman said.
