CFA’s Confined Space Team from Dandenong and a technical rescue crew from Plenty Fire Brigade worked with SES to access Mac, who was pulled free just after 2.30pm this afternoon (Tuesday 4 September). Both Dandenong and Plenty were supported by local brigades Christmas Hills and St Andrews, along with Victoria Police and SES.

Crews were called to the mine shaft on the corner of One Tree Hill Road and Mine Shaft Road just before midday today with reports that a dog was trapped.

After assessing the scene and making it safe, crews started the rescue operation at 2pm, reaching Mac using a rope anchor system.

It took the team approximately 30 minutes to retrieve Mac, who had been trapped since 8am.

He will be taken to the vet for a check-up, but didn’t appear to have any injuries.
