Ensay Fire Brigade in East Gippsland recently welcomed another eight firefighters to its ranks after the members successfully completed their General Firefighter assessments.

Ensay brigade warmly welcomed the new members, particularly after the devastating fires that impacted the area last year.

Because of the remote location and geographical challenges of the area, it was thought to be important to send members on the hour-long drive to attend General Firefighter courses being conducted in other parts of the district.

A call came from the District 11 Training Team to regional trainers and assessors asking if they would be willing to run a course over a number of weekends in the beautiful little hamlet on the Great Alpine Road.

Members from Loch brigade in District 9 jumped at the chance to assist, and over three weekends in April and May they had the pleasure of working with the new members, delivering the theory and skills consolidation.

Additional training and inductions were given by District 11 Training, the brigade and Omeo Group.

As a result, last weekend Ensay brigade  added eight new members to its operational strength.

The new members are all keen to work within their local community.
