On Sunday 23 October, Ocean Grove Fire Brigade’s Adam Thompson climbed all 1,504 stairs of the Sydney Tower Eye in an effort to raise funds for motor neurone disease (MND) research.
The event was a huge success with almost 400 fireys from across the country getting involved.
Adam completed the climb in an impressive 17.24 minutes and smashed his $500 fundraising target, raising a whopping $958.40 for the cause.
Adam said he would gladly admit that the climb was a challenge, but well worth the effort.
“They had dedicated every floor to someone who had lost their life to MND which made you push even harder in their memory,” said Adam.
“Everyone who participated in the climb was so encouraging, it didn’t matter what brigade or state you were from, on the day we were all one tight knit unit!
“The work put in by the NSW Fire and Rescue Service was outstanding along with the countless volunteers who made the day run seamlessly.
“I would like to give a big heart felt thank you to everyone at CFA who donated to my climb; your support pushed me to go the extra mile.
“I will definitely be back next year, hopefully with more CFA members by my side showing support for our interstate comrades as well as providing a little friendly competition!”
The Firefighters Stair Climb raised over $475,600 that will go directly to MND research.
