Grass fire threatens homes near Tongala

*UPDATED: 4.00PM. Firefighters battled a grass and scrub fire in Tongala across multiple properties in the state’s north-west this afternoon (8 March).

CFA crews responded to the incident shortly after 1.40pm.

Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) and three aircraft assisted with the firefight. The fire was called under control around 3pm.

There were approximately 13 hectares burnt.

Police were on scene for traffic control.

20 CFA vehicles from Bamawm, Colbinabbin, Corop, Echuca, Girgarre, Kotupna, Kyabram, Merrigum, Mooroopna, Rochester, Rushworth, Tatura, Timmering, Tongala, Undera, Wyuna and Yambuna attended.

An advice message was issued for Kyvalley, Tongala and Tongala East.
