Local CFA volunteers are prepared for another upcoming season of fire danger following the Southern Mallee Group exercise at Hopetoun on Sunday, 25 September.

Woomelang, Turriff, Hopetoun, Hopetoun West, Beulah and Rosebery trucks attended, along with members from Speed and Lascelles Brigades and District 18 Operations Officer, Rob McNally, bringing the total personnel in attendance to around 40.

Exercises undertaken by volunteers included using Breathing Apparatus to rescue dummies from a smoke filled house, attacking a hay fire with Class A foam, drafting water from a Shire supply dam and using crew protection systems on trucks.

Following the morning’s exercises, a debrief and barbecue lunch was held at Hopetoun Fire Station.
