CFA crews performed the delicate operation of removing a man’s leg stuck between two large panels of glass on a construction site on Stud Rd in Rowville this morning (9 August).
He was freed at 8.23am and is now in the care of paramedics.
CFA District 13 Rostered Duty Officer Tim Holland said firefighters slowly and carefully manoeuvred both the two-tonne glass panels, and the man’s left leg to get him out safely.
“Our firefighters have been on the scene since 6.50am, and we found the patient conscious and breathing but obviously distressed,” Mr Holland said.
“It was a challenging process of stabilising the fragile glass and carefully freeing the man’s leg.
“We are using our heavy rescue hydraulic equipment to manoeuvre the patient and an on-site crane to stabilise everything.”
CFA trucks from Dandenong, Rowville, and Scoresby, with about 25 firefighters on the scene, supported by an MFB crew. Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended.
