When Stanley the Horse got himself into a spot of bother on Sunday morning, he was lucky enough to have the best possible help to hand.
Crews from Monbulk, Macclesfield and The Basin and Knox SES dedicated two and a half hours to safely and successfully remove Stanley from his horse float.
The horse had slipped and fallen, and being in a difficult position, was unable to right himself without assistance.
According to The Basin Fire Brigade Facebook page, local Yarra Ranges Animal Hospital vet Emma had been instrumental in overseeing the recue, which involved the horse being sedated then manually extricated with the use of a harness and SES crane equipment.
Crews attended the incident at the Doongala Pony Club at around 9am.
Macclesfield CFA captain Sharon Merritt said it had been impressive to see the way CFA and SES crews had worked together at yesterday’s incident at Montrose.
“We got the horse out of the float fairly quickly but he was sedated so it took a while to get him back on his feet.
“It become critical that they stand up as soon as possible otherwise there can be health issues for the horse."
