This weekend Werribee Fire Brigade will be showing their Road Crash Rescue capability against their interstate colleagues at the Australasian Road Rescue Challenge in Lardner Park, Victoria, Australia.
Daniel May, Werribee Firefighter and rescue operator is the Team Leader for the seven volunteers attending the championship. The team will compete in five events over the weekend which includes Entrapped, Time Critical, Controlled and two Trauma events.
“Nerves and excitement have kicked in,” said Daniel.
“To be here with our interstate colleagues competing is quite an honour and such a great experience for the team to learn new techniques and skills.
“We had our first event today and the boys did really well. They progressed through the tasks they were given with great momentum and all the safety aspects were covered off.”
CFA Deputy Chief Officer Gavin Freeman who is at the challenge today (27 July 2018) said:
“It’s great to see the friendly rivalry between the teams but the real benefit is the fact this is a very unique learning opportunity for all those involved.
“The challenge keeps our skills contemporary for what is a very difficult job in Road Crash Rescue.
“Werribee have done exceptionally well against their competitors so far and I wish them good luck for the rest of the weekend.”
The challenge forms part of the highly-regarded Australasian Road Rescue Organisation (ARRO) Learning Symposium, a four-day event that includes presentations on vehicle technology and a range of vehicle rescue techniques.
ARRO is the peak body in Australasia for the development and exchange of information, knowledge and skills in road rescue.
