This year Giffard West Fire Brigade celebrated a big milestone, having served the community for 70 years.
To celebrate the brigade hosted a celebration which over 70 people attended on 5 February.
The event was hosted at Giffard West Hall, the same venue as the very first brigade meeting in 1946.
Jim Harrap was the guest of honour. He is the only surviving member of the inaugural meeting, 70 years ago, where he was elected as Secretary.
The event presented the opportunity to recognise some of the brigade’s member’s achievements including a variety of service awards.
CFA Operations Manager Glenn Pröebstl with Brigade Administration Support Officer Keith Condratoff attended to award the recipients with their honours.
Twelve members were presented with awards for their service to the Giffard West Fire Brigade, ranging from five to 30 years.
Members Peter Eppelstun and Bill Foreman were recognised for serving the brigade for 45 years and Alister Anderson reached a huge milestone of 55 years.
Alister and Bill were also presented with the CFA Life Membership award in recognition of not only their long service, but their exceptional commitment to CFA.
When the presentation of awards ended, the celebrations continued with a traditional country style luncheon.
