CFA firefighters demonstrated their many skills with a range of different incidents across the state overnight.
Around 10.30 last night (31 Oct), Hamilton firefighters were called to an incident in Martin Street where a pregnant cat was stuck in a tree.
The caller said the cat was about 8-10 metres high and was being attacked by a possum.
Hamilton Fire Brigade was able to retrieve the cat safely and returned it to its concerned owner at 11pm.
At the same time the cat rescue was taking place, Maryborough CFA was also attending an animal rescue.
CFA was called to an incident in Queens Avenue where a dog was trapped under a house.
Maryborough firefighters were able to rescue the dog safely within 15 minutes.
In the west part of the state there were two structure fires overnight.
CFA was called to a house fire in Jung just after 10.30pm. On arrival, the Jung North Road single storey hardy plank house was fully alight.
One person in the house at the time evacuated the property safely.
Six CFA vehicles from Horsham, Jung and Murtoa attended the fire. The cause is unknown and will be investigated today.
Around 5.45 this morning, a fire broke out at a childcare centre in Horsham.
CFA found the Baillie Street property fully involved in fire on arrival.
The fire was deemed under control by 7am. Victoria Police was called in for suspicious circumstances.
An Advice message was issued at 6.38am to warn the local community about potentially hazardous fumes from the fire.
Seven CFA vehicles attended the scene from Horsham, Dimboola, Warracknabeal, Vectis and Dooen. Four crews are still on scene.
East of Melbourne there was a structure fire in Lilydale early this morning. CFA was called to the Cobden Crescent home just before 5am.
The fire, believed to have started in the kitchen, damaged around 50-70% of the single storey split level dwelling.
Ambulance Victoria was called in to treat a man suffering from smoke inhalation.
The cause will be investigated today. Six CFA crews from Lilydale, Bayswater, Mt Evelyn and Mooroolbark attended the fire.
