A busy weekend for Kangaroo Flat

The new $1.8 million Kangaroo Flat Fire Station was officially opened on Saturday 28 May 2016 by Maree Edwards MLA, Member for Bendigo West.

Volunteers from the brigade marched from the old premises in Station Street to the new station in Helm Street for the opening.

The Kangaroo Flat Fire Brigade was established over 150 years ago, being formally registered on 20 August 1891. The first fire station was located in Smith Street near the site of the current Telstra exchange building. From here the brigade moved to Station Street in 1954 where they operated from until completion of the new station in September 2015.

With the significant growth in the Kangaroo Flat region – the establishment of numerous schools, sporting and retail facilities and industrial estates – a new station is just what was needed. These new facilities will enable brigade members to keep up with the demands of the growing risks in their response area.

The official opening was followed on Sunday by a Community Open day which included station tours and numerous displays by the brigade and other groups, along with other emergency services including the SES and Ambulance Victoria.

There was a huge response from the community with visitors streaming in throughout the event.
