The current Bendigo Fire Station is ideally located in the Bendigo CBD, but the brigade’s needs have outgrown the building.

The current 35-year-old station will be demolished and replaced with a larger and more modern facility, projected for completion in late 2021.

To make way for construction, CFA has purchased land on Murphy Street which will be developed into a temporary station for volunteer members and career staff.

Works are expected to start on the temporary site in early 2020, with the brigade temporarily relocating in mid-2020 while the new station is built.

District 2 Operations Manager Bill Johnstone said the new Bendigo Fire Station will be a welcome addition to Bendigo.

“With over 100 career and volunteer members, four frontline fire trucks and support vehicles the Bendigo Fire Station is a hive of activity,” he said.

“The new station will give us the space and facilities we need to serve the Bendigo community into the future.”

The new station will feature a five-bay drive through motor room, administration area, amenities and operational spaces including rest and recline areas for 14 staff.

The station will also include improved operational health and safety features and enough turnout space and amenities for the current and future needs of the brigade. Both the temporary fire station and the new development are funded by the Victorian Government’s 350 Firefighter Program.
