On Monday 21 June just before 10pm, Benalla and Winton fire brigades were responded to a fire in a drier at a chipboard manufacturing factory.

Onsite workers tried to put out the fire, but when CFA crews arrived the industrial drier and chimney were on fire with embers spreading the fire to adjoining machinery.

Benalla Fire Brigade members requested the assistance of two aerial pumpers, one from Fire Rescue Victoria Shepparton and one from Fire and Rescue NSW Albury to access the tall chimney.

Benalla brigade crews extinguished the drier while the aerial pumper crews extinguished the chimney.

The fire was under control within 40 minutes and extinguished just before midnight.
