Last week (13 December) CFA Air Operations in North West Region relocated fixed wing bombers 352 and 353.
The aircraft were moved from Ouyen to Kerang Airfield and will continue to support delayed harvesting activities in the region.
Before the aircraft could properly settle into their new residence they were promptly called to assist with a grassfire in Normanville.
District 20 Operations Manager John Cutting said the bombers assisted firefighters on the ground delivering eight loads (25,000 litres) of water to the fireground.
“This morning was an excellent example our how we work together in the sky and on the ground in bringing a fire under control,” John said.
“The aircraft are a huge asset to the north-west, especially as all forecasts suggest we are in for an above average and challenging fire season.
“The arrival of the two bombers will strengthen our capability and help us achieve our mission of protecting life and property this summer."
The bombers started at Ouyen in late October and are supported by a helitack operating out of Sea Lake since November.
An additional helitack was also in place at Boort three weeks ago. This has now been relocated to Ovens near Bright in Victoria’s north-east.
