Brigade Management Team Workshops

The Volunteerism team has developed a series of two hour interactive workshops to support new and existing Brigade Management Team (BMT) members develop and maintain healthy and effective brigades.

Two of the non-operational topics recently conducted include ‘Communicating Effectively’ and ‘Bring out the best in People, Managing Performance’.

A ‘Communicating Effectively’ workshop, recently run in District 16, encouraged participants to think about boundaries between personal and professional relationships, communicating well and capitalizing on individual strengths and those of the team.  The interactive, discussion based approach “offered self-reflection and took into consideration other team members communication styles” said Operations Officer Alfred Mason

“Nothing is so good it couldn’t be better” said Shane Cramer (Greendale Brigade), adding “this workshop helps to build on strengths and has the potential to smooth out any roadblocks involving the decision making process”.

The Ararat Brigade Management Team also took the opportunity to participate in a session and identified a number of strategies on how to keep their members well informed.

Lorne Brigade participated in a ‘Bring out the best in People, Managing Performance’ workshop which provided participants with an understanding of five performance management strategies. BMT members discussed how they can motivate and support new and current members to perform at their best through training and development, coaching and mentoring and providing feedback.
