Brigade Management Team workshops

Timboon and Birregurra brigades recently took part in a two-hour interactive Brigade Management Team (BMT) workshop on meeting skills.

The workshops were held at their fire stations with the BMT and other interested brigade members.

The workshop was developed through the Volunteer Support Program to help brigades plan and run effective meetings. Topics covered include communication styles, encouraging participation, setting clear agendas, keeping to a timeframe, achieving outcomes and recording minutes.

The workshop is run as a guided discussion to help brigades recognise what they’re doing well, and perhaps pick up some ideas for improvements – whether in preparing for, running or following up on, action items after meetings.

Some comments from the workshop participants:

  • "Interesting and informative."
  • "Well run, thought provoking and helpful."
  • "Enjoyable workshop. Has given the brigade a few pointers to improve on meetings."

Four BMT workshops are available to brigades and groups, including ‘Effective Communication’, ‘Bring out the Best in People - Managing Team Performance’ and ‘Work Life Balance’. Workshops can be booked through District Volunteerism Coordinators (BASOs can point you in the right direction) or Leanne Wilson (OT&V) This email address is being protected from spambots.
