Firefighters and waterbombing aircraft have been battling a grassfire near Ararat this afternoon (9 February).

CFA was called to the grass and scrub fire on the Western Highway in Armstrong just before 1.30pm.

Thirty fire trucks and 100 firefighters from CFA and FFMVic are currently on scene, supported by waterbombing aircraft, heavy equipment and a water tanker provided by Ararat Rural City Council.

An Emergency Warning was issued to the community, which has now been downgraded to an Advice Message.

There have been no reports of losses, thanks to the efforts of firefighters who worked together to protect homes under threat.

The fire is not yet under control and crews will continue working on controlling the blaze well into the night.
