Hoppers Crossing, Truganina, Wyndham Vale, and Pt Cook Fire brigades recently conducted strike team readiness and grassfire tactics practical training in Wyndham.

The aim was for nearly accredited Strike Team Leaders, Crew Leaders, Staging Area members, and FOV operators a chance to put their newly attained skills into action in a simulated training exercise whilst being mentored performing the role.

Tuesday night’s training allowed members the opportunity to gain further knowledge into preparing for a strike team prior to being dispatched and what to do when the pager goes off and the strike teams are activated.

Hoppers Crossing Captain Paul DiMartino said that with nearly two years of limited practical-based training due to COVID it was good to see 61 volunteer firefighters with 11 firefighting vehicles participate in the drill.

"As one of the instructors, our aim was to allow all members in the drill to actively participate in the session while being mentored by other accredited senior volunteers," he said.

"The feedback received by the participants has been nothing but positive and they are keen for the next joint brigade training drills.

"I would like to thank everyone involved in the training drill, including the instructors and Hoppers Crossing FB auxiliary for catering."
