Members of Rutherglen and Wahgunyah brigades crossed the border into NSW on Tuesday (25 June) to participate in a joint training exercise with Corowa Fire and Rescue.

Crews had their work cut out for them when they faced a mock fire in an abandoned nurse’s quarters next to the town’s hospital.
As part of the scenario, the second and third floors of the large building were on fire and at least five people were missing, presumed trapped in the building.
Firefighters from both agencies had to work together to extinguish the fire, then search for and rescue any remaining survivors.
Participants gained hands-on experience with door entries, pumping, dragging hose up multiple floors, search and rescue and more.
Following the scenario, crews from both agencies got together for a debrief and BBQ.
Rutherglen Captain David Hawkey thanked Corowa 268 for the invitation to train with their firefighters.
“It was a great exercise to practice skills on a level we don't normally get to and a great opportunity to interact with our colleagues across the border,” he said.
