This April and May, CFA will be out in the community surveying local community members on behalf of the Castlemaine Fire Brigade to help improve service delivery and community engagement.
The brigade has a long and proud history and has been serving the local community of Castlemaine for over 160 years. Today’s brigade is very different to the brigade of the 1850s, but their primary role of protecting lives and property still remains.
“Over the past ten years, Castlemaine’s community has grown and changed,” says Captain Terry Franklin. “We’ve seen growth in housing, infrastructure and population, and our community is more diverse than ever before,” he says.
In line with this growth and change, demands on the brigade have also increased.
“In 2013 our brigade responded to 145 local calls to fire and emergency incidents and last year this increased by 31 to 176,” Terry says. “This survey will help us gain a clearer understanding of the community we now serve.”
The Castlemaine Fire Brigade also hopes to understand the community’s knowledge of the brigade and how the community view the brigade’s role. The survey is being implemented by staff from CFA’s Brigade Sustainability Project on the brigade's behalf.
“It’s great to see the brigade being proactive in trying to understand how demographic and other community changes impact on service delivery and brigade capacity,” says CFA Operations Officer Craig Brittain. “CFA has provided extra resources through the Brigade Sustainability Project to assist with this and other initiatives across the state so we really encourage the community to get on board and complete a survey.”
