CFA attending significant fire involving multiple caravans

Firefighters are battling a significant fire at a caravan park in Murchison East.

 

CFA was notified at 10:59am this morning (18 August) to reports of a caravan fire at High Rd, Murchison East.

The scene is not yet under control, and the fire has spread with an estimated eight to 10 caravans involved.

There have been no reports of injuries at this stage and it is too early to determine a cause.

Ten CFA vehicles are on scene with support from FRV. More vehicles are en route.


Update: 12.38pm

The scene was declared under control at 12:28, with crews to remain on scene for some time.

Thirteen CFA vehicles are currently on scene, including a rehab unit and CFA support vehicles.

Update: 1.45pm

CFA Commander Rohan Taylor said there were six caravans completely destroyed in the fire and an additional three damaged by heat.

"The cause is undetermined and we're waiting for fire investigators to arrive on scene," said Commander Taylor.

"We had volunteers from many brigades helping at the scene, including Murchison, Nagambie, Shepparton, Arcadia, Moorlim, Bailieston, Tatura, Wahring, and Rushworth, as well as FRV crews who all worked extremely well together.

"There were a number of caravan park residents around and they were very respectful to the firefighters and their operations."
