At about 11.30am on Monday 9 September, Doreen Fire Brigade responded to a serious single-vehicle incident.

The incident scene was quite confronting with debris spread over a significant distance. The force of the impact ripped the motor and transmission from the vehicle.

Fortunately, Ambulance Victoria (AV) arrived on scene first and attended to the injured driver. Doreen Fire Brigade's pumper tanker established a control point and passed on vital information to Plenty Fire Brigade's rescue unit.

Fire Rescue Victoria Pumper 81 crew stabilised the wreck making it safe for AV to attend to the injured driver.

The Plenty rescue crew extracted the injured driver efficiently and skilfully, and the driver was transported to hospital by AV.

The day before, Doreen fire brigade was paged to attend a van fire in a rural part of the suburb. Responding firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly extinguished the main fire and then used a thermal imaging camera to locate hotspots to ensure the fire was completely out.

Initially there were concerns for a driver as it appeared that the van had run off the road and caught fire. However, a search confirmed no driver was present.

Doreen brigade was supported by Arthurs Creek and Strathewen brigades, Plenty Rescue, Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police.
