Horsham Fire Brigade volunteers are calling on the local community to join CFA’s ranks to help with the town’s growing needs.
The 2014 fires demonstrated just how critical CFA is to Horsham, the Grampians and the rest of Victoria.
CFA has recently boosted Horsham brigade’s ability to protect the community with some high quality equipment including a new Scania Pumper.
CFA District 17 Volunteerism Co-Ordinator John Robinson said CFA wasn’t just about jumping on the back of a truck and fighting fires – there’s a range of non-operational roles which we need volunteers for.
“Joining CFA means you become part of an important and highly valued team,” he said.
“CFA members are trained to deal with various emergencies from bushfires, house fires, gas leaks and road accidents just to name a few.
“Non-operational roles include tasks like education programs, handling logistics, being treasurer or monitoring radio traffic – there is always a position at CFA for everyone and every role is important.
“Not only are you helping your community, you are also able to develop great new skills and friendships.”
All CFA volunteers have the opportunity to receive high level nationally accredited ongoing training and skills development.
“Many of the skills developed by being a member of a CFA brigade benefit you with your day-to-day life – at home and in the workplace,” Mr Robinson said.
“Being a CFA volunteer is extremely rewarding – you are contributing to the protection of lives and property.
“Above all else, there is a real sense of pride in supporting the community in times of fires and other emergencies.”
The Horsham Fire Brigade is looking for male and female members with a range of skills including leadership, management, business and administrative skills, people skills, day time responders to incidents, firefighters and other support roles.
Interested members of the community are invited to an information and demonstration day at the Horsham Fire Station at 1:00pm onSunday 12 April, 2015.
