National Volunteer Week gives us an opportunity to reflect on, and recognise, our volunteers.

Chief Officer Steve Warrington highlighted how volunteers embody the values of CFA.

“I’m proud of our volunteers, their passion and their commitment,” he said. “The work done by CFA volunteers in our communities is simply invaluable.”

This year CFA has organised a range of activities to recognise the work of our volunteers, including launching the inaugural Spirit of CFA Awards.

On Saturday 19 May, over 60 CFA volunteers were honoured on the ground at the Country Round of the AFL. Our volunteers welcomed players from Essendon and Geelong onto the MCG and unfurled an oversized Australian flag while John Williamson performed 'Waltzing Matilda'. CFA volunteers are a quintessential element of country Victoria, and it was both an honour and fitting to have our volunteers celebrated at such an event.

CEO Paul Smith said he was proud of the work of our volunteers.

“This week is about recognising the contribution our volunteers make in the community.”

“From the way people in CFA worked together to fight the fires in the south-west, to the work that gets done every day in communities across the state, I’ve been touched by the commitment of our volunteers during the first months of my new role.”

National Volunteer Week runs from 21 May - 27 May.
