Claire Higgins

On Saturday I was informed by Claire Higgins that she has formally submitted her letter of resignation as CFA Chair to Emergency Services Minister Jane Garrett.

I understand this will come as a surprise to many of you, as it has for me.  Claire has strongly indicated that this is not linked or a part of anything other than her desire to step aside from this incredibly demanding role due to personal reasons.

Claire has been a member of the CFA Board since 2007, and held the role of deputy Chair before assuming the Chairperson role in 2012.  In that time CFA has experienced an exceptionally challenging and changing external environment, which has required the thorough dedication of all executive and Board members.

Claire has guided CFA through this period and will be remembered for this.

Deputy Chair, Mr John Peberdy will be assuming the role of Acting Chairperson for the foreseeable future.

There is much to occupy us ahead with inquiries, restructuring, finalisation of executive roles, the departure of Chief Officer Euan Ferguson as well as the fast approaching fire season.  It is imperative that we focus our attention firmly forward and deliver for the communities we serve.

I wish to convey my heartfelt appreciation to Claire for her support and guidance and wish her well in the future.
