CFA firefighters responded to reports of a rubbish fire at a Bulla tip site at 6.15am on Tuesday, 22 September.
On arrival, a large pile of rubbish was burning and producing black smoke.
The fire size was approximately 80 metres x 50 metres. The fire impacted general building waste, household waste and tyres.
A community advice message was issued to Melbourne Airport and surrounding suburbs.
There were 19 CFA vehicles which attended the incident site, from Bulla, Wildwood, Toolern, Clarkefield, Greenvale, Sunbury, Craigieburn, Riddells Creek, Diggers Rest, Melton, Mt Cottrell Group and District 14 HQ. Fire Rescue Victoria crews are supporting.
Crews worked with tip operators to pull apart the pile of rubbish using an excavator to further extinguish the fire.
The smoke has been reduced by extinguishing methods.
The incident was listed as under control at 11.30am.
Crews remained on scene into the afternoon to check for hot spots and ensure no further flare ups.
A stop was issued at 3.12pm and the scene was handed back to tip operators.
The cause has not yet been determined.
