The Lilydale Masonic Centre was destroyed on Saturday 16 December after a fire tore through the building.

CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to a report of smoke and on arrival crews were confronted with flames above the roof.

Lilydale Fire Brigade Captain Warren Davis said, “We were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties.

“Unfortunately, with the fire having already spread through the roof, we were unable to save the Masonic Lodge.”

FRV’s ladder platform was used to fight the fire and FRV crews monitored hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.

CFA crews from 10 brigades attended the fire including Lilydale, Mooroolbark, Chirnside Park, Mt Evelyn, Coldstream, Bayswater, Yellingbo and Boronia.

The fire was under control within 40 minutes of arrival, but crews remained on scene for close to six hours.

Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police also attended.
