CFA firefighters respond to Rainbow stubble fire

A fire is burning in canola stubble along the Dimboola-Rainbow Road in Rainbow after a header caught fire this afternoon.

Firefighters were called about 4.37pm.

Tankers and volunteer firefighters from Werrap, Jeparit, Kenmare, Pigick, Yaapeet and Rainbow have responded, supported by a forward command vehicle from the CFA Rainbow Group.

The fire is burning in a northerly direction and is not under control. It is estimated to have burned 80-100 hectares.

Five water-bombing aircraft are en route from Stawell airbase.

An incident control centre is being set up at CFA District 17 headquarters.

UPDATE (11.50pm)

An Advice message has been published that states there is currently no threat to residents, but they are urged to stay informed and monitor conditions.

Smoke may will be visible from nearby roads and communities. Residents are asked to keep roads clear so emergency services can respond.

Firefighters remain on the scene.
