CFA members march with pride

CFA volunteers from a number of brigades across the state participated in the Midsumma Pride March - an important demonstration of unity for members of the LGBTIQA+ community.

Inclusion and Fairness Coordinator Terri Wright said today and every day we support our rainbow volunteers, staff and the wider pride community.

CFA is committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive organisation where all members engage and interact with each other and the broader community in an equitable manner,” Terri said.

Due to capacity limits on events in a COVID-normal Victoria, this year CFA was only able to register limited numbers.

“It was great to see so many groups represented in the march, especially after last year was cancelled due to COVID restrictions.

“It’s really important to show our support for the LGBTIQ+ community and I’m proud to say this is the seventh year CFA members have been involved with the march,” Terri added.

“I march to show visible support to make sure everyone feels welcome and respected at CFA.”

The march kicked off at 11am on Sunday 23 May, down Fitzroy Street in St Kilda with 8000 marchers. The event was live-streamed for the first time and can be viewed here.

The march was led by Boon Wurrung Elders and a Rainbow Aboriginal contingent and followed by 240 separate marching groups made up of diverse communities, pride organisations and allies.
