It’s that iconic time of year again when CFA volunteers hit Victorian streets and rattle tins to fundraise for the annual Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Good Friday Appeal.
CFA is proud to have been a major fundraising partner of the Good Friday Appeal for the past 72 years, raising millions of dollars to help the hospital deliver world-class care to sick kids.
The involvement of our members, fundraising from fire trucks and at traffic lights across the state has been a hallmark feature of the event for seven decades.
CFA has raised more than $36 million for the Appeal since 1951. Last year, CFA helped raise more than $1.4 million.
Yesterday, CFA Deputy Chief Officer Garry Cook was joined by Hoppers Crossing brigade members Melissa Cain, Shripad Date, Alan Pascoe and Sean McGregor at the RCH to launch this year’s Good Friday Appeal campaign.
Hoppers Crossing firefighter Melissa Cain said the brigade has raised a total of around $190,000 for the Good Friday Appeal, edging closer to the $200,000 milestone.
“We’re motivated to raise $10,000 this year to surpass our next big milestone,” she said.
“As an expecting mother myself, the cause is important to me because while you hope you never have to use the RCH, it’s important that we help build a fantastic service for the community to help kids in their time of need.
“This year, we’re excited to get our junior brigade members involved for the first time by doorknocking in our area.”
DCO Cook is proud of CFA’s long-standing relationship with the Good Friday Appeal and encourages the community to support their brigade’s fundraising efforts this year, if they can.
“The remarkable commitment of our volunteers to their community is the reason we see thousands of members giving up their time to raise funds for sick kids,” he said.
“This worthy cause is close to the hearts of many of our members – whether they were previous patients at the hospital or have family who have been touched by the RCH’s world-class service.
“We are incredibly proud of our members’ continued fundraising efforts and pleased to once again support the Good Friday Appeal in 2023.”
