Werribee Brigade presents the CFA cheque for the 2018 Good Friday Appeal

CFA members have a long and rich history of collecting money for the GFA, and this year was no exception, with $1.67 million raised during the Channel 7 live telecast.

With the final CFA tally yet to be calculated, the $1.67 million already raised made CFA the largest contributor to the 2018 Appeal.

CFA staff and volunteers have been rattling tins, hosting activities and volunteering their time for the Good Friday Appeal since 1951, with a grand total of $30 million raised.

This year, CFA once again joined forces with MFB to raise money in the 14-hour treadmill challenge, Werribee CFA hosted a GFA command centre to coordinate fundraising, as well large numbers of CFA volunteers and staff rattling tins  at intersections and at the Kids Day Out.

CFA is extremely proud of its 67-year history with the hospital. This year, Assistant Chief Officer for CFA’s West Region, Peter O’Keefe and the Werribee brigade presented the cheque for $1,677, 628 during the Channel 7 live telecast.

“I was honoured to present this cheque on behalf of our dedicated and committed members and their brigades,’ Assistant Chief Officer O’Keefe said.

“Each year CFA’s people work tirelessly across every corner of the state to raise money for the hospital and the children who need it most,”

“Well done everyone, especially to the Werribee Brigade, which has collected $1 million for the appeal over the past 40 years — it’s a fantastic effort.”

CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington said the total figure raised by CFA was outstanding.

“Brigades have always had a strong affiliation with the Appeal. Members and their families volunteer their time to fundraise as much as they can,” Chief Officer Warrington said.

“It really is a testament to who they are, not only out there saving lives and property but also raising funds for this important cause.

“We are really proud of our association with the Good Friday Appeal and we look forward to raising money for the hospital for many years to come.”

The money raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal will be used to buy medical equipment and fund research projects and scholarships.
