CFA responds to refinery incident

UPDATE Tuesday 11.30am: Roads near the refinery have reopened and no hazardous material has been detected outside the refinery and the all clear has been sounded. Other areas of the facility are operating as normal.

Tuesday 6:30am: CFA crews were called to attend a leak a processing unit at the Geelong Refinery this morning (27 April).

Firefighters were called at 5.10am to a catalyst leak in a refinery unit. Catalyst is a fine, hot sand used in the refining process.

It was called under control one hour later at 6.10am.

Firefighters will remain on scene for some time.

Roads around the refinery have been closed and police are directing traffic. Diversions will remain in place until the all-clear has sounded from the refinery.

Crews from Geelong, Corio, Belmont and Lara attended.
