CFA & SES deliver Safety Information in Jindivick

Drouin West Fire Brigade has been delivering Fire Safe Kids programs to both Jindivick & Drouin West Primary Schools for a number of years. This year they decided to adopt an “All Hazards” approach and combine with Warragul SES to pilot a program in which students were taught important safety information from both agencies.

On Tuesday the 20th October volunteers from both Drouin West CFA and Warragul SES spent the day at Jindivick Primary School. Using material from CFA’s Fire Safe Kids program and SES’s Youth and Children program they delivered a number of lessons that included a range of key messages such as;

  •          Get down low and go, go, go (a favourite with all students)
  •          Simple Rules for home fire Safety
  •          Floodwater is dangerous
  •          Identifying Hazards in the home and
  •          Home Fire Safety

Students also had an opportunity to experience a smoke filled room by crawling through the Smoke House and a look around Drouin West’s Tanker. A number of students over 11 expressed an interest in joining Drouin West’s Junior Fire Brigade to further their knowledge.

At the end of each lesson students were quizzed as to what they learnt and were all able to recall one lesson they learnt.

Wendy Arnott, Principal of Jindivick Primary School was thrilled with ongoing support from Drouin West and the inclusion of Warragul SES to deliver important safety information to all students. “A  huge thanks to you and your team for such a wonderful and very educational day for our children” said Wendy.
