I am pleased to welcome Dr Paul Smith, who commences today as Chief Executive Officer.
As you would be aware, Paul comes to CFA with significant experience in environmental management and a strong understanding of the complex issues underpinning emergency management and fire prevention.
He also brings a keen understanding of climate change, a critical issue we not only face now, but that will form an increasing part of our organisation’s planning in the future.
As Paul begins the formidable task of leading our organisation, I encourage you to make him feel welcome and supported.
His permanent appointment to the position of Chief Executive is a key step in our mission to strengthen CFA.
Much of the groundwork to create a strong foundation for the future has been due in large part to the efforts of Frances Diver.
Frances came to CFA during a difficult and tumultuous period for the organisation in June 2016.
During her leadership, she has successfully embedded a much more inclusive, accountable and transparent culture within CFA.
Frances has calmly steered CFA through difficult issues, commenced a major cultural change program and helped secure record state government investment in CFA.
She has made a significant contribution to growing CFA as a modern, urban and country emergency service.
Frances will be providing support to Paul over the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition.
On behalf of the Board and the rest of CFA I sincerely thank Frances and wish her well for the future and welcome Paul to CFA.
Please note the CEO’s email doesn’t follow the usual pattern: it is paul.smith@cfa.vic.gov.au
