The CFA will host a women’s event on Sunday 27 August to promote the large number of operational and non-operational opportunities for women in CFA.
Current and prospective CFA members are invited to take part in the event that will be run by the District 24 Women’s Reference Group and District 24 Headquarters.
An Australian Defence Force leader, Lieutenant Colonel Ruth Perry will share her insight into what has contributed to her successful career path.
Colonel Perry will join an impressive panel of guest speakers aiming to encourage women to seek out greater opportunities across CFA.
The event will highlight what a large number of women are already achieving at CFA and also provide a unique insight into life working and volunteering within the district.
Those attending will hear from a number of inspirational female members about their different experiences as CFA members.
CFA member and Chair of the District 24 Women’s Reference Group Marelle Whitaker says the open day is the result of a recent district wide survey and is a great opportunity for women to support one another.
“The survey was an important step for the reference group to find out about women across our district and to find out about the roles they play and what they want to learn more about,” Marelle said.
“The results of the survey indicated a strong desire for women to find out more about training and the different roles within the CFA. A large number of women also indicated a strong interest in getting their truck licence.
“The event has the very real potential to open and highlight a large number of opportunities for women that they previously didn’t know about.”
There's a wide range of opportunities for women in CFA and the open day really aims to showcase that.
There will be breakout sessions on different training and learning pathways within CFA that will give attendees an opportunity to learn about the areas that are of most interest to them.
