CFA/VFBV State Championships wrap up for another year

Urban and rural brigades from across the state travelled to Mooroopna across two weekends to participate in Junior and Senior Championships.

A deluge just days before the second weekend of events caused minor flooding and fallen debris at the event site. After a massive clean-up effort by CFA volunteers and staff, with help from the City of Greater Shepparton council, spectators were treated to nearly perfect weather as they cheered on teams in intense competition.

Members from local brigades like Natalie Dobbyn from Mooroopna joined members from further afield such as Shymma Harris from Pakenham as they returned to participate in the competitions side by side, bringing a great sense of camaraderie to both weekends.

The corporate tent again featured displays such as the latest training and infrastructure highlights, and the site was also used midweek to promote fire safety for school children.

On the second weekend, the local community were treated to a Torchlight Procession through the streets of Shepparton, highlighting the value of tradition in CFA, while Beazleys Bridge's victory in the inaugural Outstanding Female Team Trophy provided a glimpse into the future of CFA.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the state championships were not only important to our members, but they are also a highlight of the CFA annual calendar.

“The State Championships are a big part of CFA’s volunteer culture, and promotes the important values of teamwork and respect, as well as engaging our members in some friendly competition with like-minded competitors,” Jason said.

Results from both weekends can be found below.
