CFA members have surpassed last year’s total and raised and collected more than $1.7 million for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
CFA brigades were pounding the pavement over the Easter period, rattling collection tins to raise money for the annual fundraiser.
In addition to the funds raised and collected by CFA tin shakers, members also teamed up with MFB firefighters for 14-hour treadmill challenge held on Thursday, raising $23,022.55.
Members of the Longwarry Fire Brigade and CFA Deputy Chief Officer Bruce Byatt presented a bucket during Seven Network’s telethon on Good Friday, to represent the money collected by CFA.
At $1,713,432.67 the final figure tops last year's CFA contribution which was $1.6 million. It was the third highest contribution to the 2015 Appeal.
“This is a wonderful achievement and I thank all our dedicated members for their hard work in raising funds the Good Friday Appeal,” Bruce said.
“We’re extremely proud of all our members who volunteered their time to help raise money for this worthy cause.
“CFA brigades have been raising and collecting money for the appeal for more than 60 years, that’s more than $23 million raised to date.”
In total $17,109,063.22 was raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital 2015 Good Friday Appeal. The funds will be used to buy medical equipment and to fund research projects and scholarships.
