Change Your Clock, Change Your Smoke Alarm

Australia’s fire and emergency services attended more than 12,000 residential fires in 2014. In Victoria alone there are over 3,000 home fires each year.

Smoke alarms provide an essential early warning and time to evacuate safely – but only if they work. CFA and Duracell batteries are joining forces for the fifteenth year in a row to run a campaign to encourage Victorians to change their smoke alarm batteries when they change their clocks at the end of daylight savings on Sunday 5 April. This campaign is part of the National Smoke Alarm campaign, a coordinated campaign across six states and territories involving eight fire services.

This year the campaign will use the same creative elements as in 2014. The theme is that of a young family who has escaped a house fire thanks to their working smoke alarm, as per the image on page 1. All marketing/media will focus on this family and will use the tagline

On Saturday 28 March in readiness for the campaign members of the North West Region Community Education Group engaged with patrons of Bunnings Kangaroo Flat store with the clear message that ‘Only Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives’ and call to action ‘Change your clock, change your smoke alarm battery on Sunday 5 April’.

Thursday 2nd April saw the statewide regional launch of the campaign was held in Bendigo. This involved DCO Steve Warrington, NWR Community Education Group members, local children and Beepa (CFA’s smoke alarm mascot) partaking in an Easter egg and smoke alarm treasure hunt of a different kind.
