Coles customers raise $20,000 for CFA brigades

Coles shoppers across the Surf Coast Shire have dug deep, raising $20,000 for local CFA surf coast brigades.

The team at Coles Torquay presented a cheque today to representatives of the Wye River Fire Brigade and CFA Coastal Group, which is made up of Aireys Inlet, Anglesea, Bellbrae, Connewarre, Freshwater Creek, Lorne and Torquay brigades.

CFA representatives from Wye River and CFA Coastal group were in attendance alongside Coles Torquay Store Manager Darren Grootveld and Regional Manager Heath Grant.

CFA South West Assistant Chief Officer Bob Barry said CFA is grateful for the generous donation by Coles customers.

“It’s great to see these brigades recognised for the tireless work they do to protect their communities,” Mr Barry said.

“We will ensure the money is used towards resources and equipment to boost the brigades’ capability now and into the future.”

In just two weeks, Coles customers across the region showed their generosity by donating via donation tins at the checkouts-an initiative suggested by local team members. Customers and team members at Coles Torquay raised the highest amount, generously donating more than $7,000.

The Wye River Fire Brigade’s donations will contribute to the building of a training room for the fire station, while brigades in the CFA Coastal Group will use their donation to purchase firefighting equipment to support future fires.
