Dandenong 2017 Harmony Festival

Once again Springvale Neighbourhood House held a 2017 Harmony Festival in Harmony Square, Dandenong on Wednesday 22 March in partnership with Monash Health, Victoria Police, Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre, South East Links and the Australian Government Department of Human Services.

This special day was to celebrate the wonderful cultural diversity in the area in which we live and to educate the community about the different services available.

The event included community groups wearing their traditional/national dress and a concert with cultural singing and dancing.

Other activities on the day included;

  •          Dressing up like an Egyptian
  •          African beading
  •          Henna hand painting
  •          Having your face painted like a Maori warrior
  •          Bracelet making
  •          Learning how to do the Haka

The day was to promote understanding and respect for diverse cultural, linguistic and religious groups and celebrate diversity through appreciation and sharing of different cultural experiences.

This year CFA held a joint display with SES where members from both services engaged the community in home fire safety and flood safety.  The display was supported by vehicles and members from Dandenong fire brigade and Dandenong SES Unit.
