Death of a member: Greg Godkin, Donald Brigade

Member News image

Today we mourn the loss of one of our own, Donald Brigade member and Fire Investigator Greg Godkin who passed away late yesterday after returning from operational duties.

Long-serving member Greg Godkin was found unresponsive at the station by another member and despite efforts to revive him, passed away.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Greg’s family, friends and colleagues at the Donald brigade – the CFA family grieves with them today.

Family, brigade members, as well as the many CFA members who knew Greg through his almost 60 years of service to our organisation, are being supported by our wellbeing team. We know that the thoughts of all CFA members are with them today.

Greg joined CFA in 1965 as a junior member and has held roles including Captain of Donald Brigade, Group Officer and VFBV delegate. He was well known not only across District 18 but across the region, due to his role as a Fire Investigator.

His wife Jenny and son Matt are active members of the Donald brigade. Greg is also survived by his daughter Sally and many grandchildren.

Our hearts are heavy, but we want to acknowledge and recognise Greg’s loyal and dedicated service over many decades, supporting and protecting his community.
